having the opportunity to be in Perth is great. i never had any idea how perth is like previously, not until i get here yesterday. but i’ve heard quite a number of Malaysians staying or residing here. whether this is true or not, i have no idea, but yes i can see a lot of asians in this town of Perth. been to coffee house, restaurants, fast-food joint, food-court, convenient stores.. most of the time, i see asian people at the counter. on the road, in the cars.. everywhere. malay, chinese mostly, indonesians, korean, pakistan and indian, you name it.
in this situation, simple conclusion can be made – foods are easy to find. asian flavor? you got it. halal? you got it too.
One big issue for being here is – money. currency exchange is quite high now. the AUD rate is about 3.2 to MYR, that’s big. and plus, almost everything sold here starts at the base price of AUD3 (RM9~RM10). that includes a can of soft drink, a bottle of mineral water and so on. one plate meal (rice + 2 dishes) cost me AUD10 while english breakfast set starts from AUD13 onwards. i checked the cigarette pricing here, and all box of 20′s starts from AUS14.50 and that’s probably the reason why i don’t see many people smoking.
comparing what i earn in Malaysia and the lifestyle and cost of living here in Perth, i’ll be the poor lot :P but yeah, we cant compare dollar-to-dollar blah-blah, i know. i know workers in Perth earns coupons as they work, used to claim meals and other stuff around town.
put currency aside, like many other town i have been, i have no reason to hate perth. i came across to this lady as i walk and taking photos, she came and asked “why do you take that picture of street name?” then simply she offered “come take my picture”..
with the friendly manner, she was so kind to promote ‘smile’ and the magic word ‘hello’. short after, she walked away and waved friend and i goodbye. this is not the first incident when locals came and talked to us. i guess many of ‘em are truly friendly people.
Sunday is in Perth is definitely not like other cities. i dont see much cars on the road, traffic congestion? there were none, at least not during my 6-hour tour around town, amazing. but there were still many people here do shopping, chillin’, outing and others.
as i walk around i saw this 6 siblings of brothers and sisters, playing good sound of violins. Sunday in Perth is definitely great for outing and picnic with family or even with friends. there are so many activities and happenings around. visit any park around town, its clean and you can see people laying down everywhere. with less sound of traffic, i felt calm. cycling and skating is safe is this area too.
Perth City is located next to Swan River. i didnt expect to see swan at the river, but somehow i got to see few along with other birds, 4 types of birds at least. too bad i dont have the picture as my battery went flat when i got there. but i got the picture of Swan Bell :) in every part of this city, i can see people walking and sitting and having a good time with friends and family.
the city arrangement is quite much like Putrajaya back in Malaysia (Precint 2 to be specific), however i can see more trees and gardens in Perth. though the temperature is high (32 degree celsius), the flowing air are cooling even at noon.
i dont get to see Koala and Kangaroo this time, and i’m looking forward to see ‘em on the next visit.
thank you for reading :)
